1940 - Spruce Goose

In 1942 Tom Masterson Sr. began his construction career as the expeditor on procurement of the wood for the Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose", an enormous, 400,000 lb. wooden flying boat often termed the "flying lumberyard." Hughes paid careful attention to even the smallest details and counted on the best materials possible. The goal was to build a cargo and troop carrier that did not require critical wartime materials; in other words, wood.
